Brief history of fortune cookies

The historical past of fortune cookies back to the 13th and 14th centuries, when China was occupied by the Mongols.

Lotus mooncakes traditional nut paste were chosen to hide secret messages on the date of a famous rebellion against the invaders. Mooncakes have been distributed by the revolutionary faithful Chu Yuan Chang (disguised as a Taoist priest) which was safe with the understanding that the Mongols did not taste of nuts of lotus paste. The rebellion succeeded, and therefore the Ming dynasty Foundation was created.

The transition of mooncakes modern fortune cookie was created from basic need in the difficult moments of American gold rush and also the railway boom. When the Chinese 69'ers were constructing the major U.S. railroads of the Sierra Nevada in California, they place happy messages within the cookie exchange during the festival of the moon as an alternative to cakes, therefore fortune cookies began.
Cottage company came forth, that the Chinese settled in San Francisco and until 1964 (first-ever automated production begins), cookies have been produced by hand.
